Where will my bodywork session take place?
Your bodywork session will take place in your home or office. In your home, you will lie on a table especially designed for your comfort, with your shoes off. At an office, you will be seated on a chair designed for body work.

What should I wear?
Orho-Bionomy® is done with the client in comfortable clothing. With On-Site chair work, business attire is fine.

What parts of my body will be worked on?
A typical home full-body session might include work on your back, arms, legs, feet, hands, head, neck, and shoulders. The client and practitioner can design a session that addresses the unique needs of the client. On-Site work will typically focus on neck and shoulders, back, arms and hands. Again, the client can direct the practitioner to focus on areas of need.

What will the session feel like?
Ortho-Bionomy® is based on comfort and the body's ability to self-correct. You often will be able to feel your body relaxing and shifting with new awareness of releasing tensions. It is not uncommon to feel better circulation and bloodflow to previously tight areas. If you feel any discomfort or anything that you don't like, another approach may be taken. Ortho-Bionomy is most effective when your body is not resisting.

Are there different kinds of Ortho-Bionomy®?
There are numerous techniques in Ortho-Bionomy. Basic moves include positional releases: gently moving the body in different directions to find positions of comfort and ease, rocking movement, posture and movement re-education, isometrics and isotonics, self-care and more. We can discuss which methods may be most appropriate for you.

How is Ortho-Bionomy® different than, say, Swedish Massage?
Ortho-Bionomy uses positional release to work with the body's neurologic system to inform and reset muscle patterns. Clients are fully dressed and no oils are used. It has more in common with sports massage.

What should I do during the session?
Always make yourself comfortable. The practitioner will either gently move you or tell you what is needed throughout the session (such as lifting your arm). Many people just close their eyes and completely relax, communicating if/when they need more or less pressure, another blanket, or anything else relevant to the session. If you have any questions regarding the session or about the particular technique you are receiving, feel free to ask.

How will I feel after the session?
Most people feel very relaxed with a new sense of ease. Many experience freedom from long-term aches and pains developed from tension or repetitive activity. People often experience increased energy, heightened awareness, and greater productivity. Ortho-Bionomy's releases continue over time, so you may feel even more change over several days. Since toxins are released from your soft tissues during a session, it is recommended you drink plenty of water following your session.

What are the benefits of Ortho-Bionomy®?
Ortho-Bionomy can help release chronic muscular tension and pain, improve circulation, increase joint flexibility, reduce mental and physical fatigue and stress, promote faster healing of injured muscular tissue, improve posture, and reduce blood pressure. Bodywork is also known to promote better sleep, improve concentration, reduce anxiety and create an overall sense of well-being.

Are there any medical conditions that would make massage or bodywork inadvisable?
Yes. That's why, before you begin your session, the practitioner may ask general health questions. It is very important that you inform the practitioner of any health problems or medications you are taking. If you are under a doctor's care, it is strongly advised that you receive a written recommendation for massage or bodywork prior to any session. Depending on the condition, approval from your doctor may be required.
